Instructions

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 7x11-inch or medium casserole dish.
  2. Prepare the apples: Spread the sliced apples in the dish. Drizzle with lemon juice. Sprinkle cinnamon + brown sugar. Dot with butter.
  3. Make the cake topping: Cream the butter and sugar. Add egg and vanilla and beat until light. In a separate bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt. Add dry ingredients to the butter mixture. Stir in the milk just until smooth (do not overmix).
  4. Assemble: Spread the batter evenly over the apples.
  5. Bake: 40–50 minutes, until the top is golden and the center is set.
  6. Prepare the naan while it bakes: Warm naan in the oven for 2–3 minutes. Brush with melted butter. Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar. Cut into strips for dipping.
  7. Serve the warm pudding with cinnamon sugar naan and ice cream or whipped cream.

Serving Suggestions

  1. Serve warm with: Vanilla ice cream Lightly sweetened whipped cream Warm vanilla sauce

Notes

  1. Let the pudding rest 10 minutes — the juices settle and the cake stays soft.
  2. Granny Smith works best, but any slightly tart apple is fine.
  3. If your apples are sweet, reduce the brown sugar in the apple layer.
